Greta Thunberg at a press conference via link during the Venice Film Festival.
VENICE. The press conference for the Swedish film “Greta” started a bit rejected. Few people in her place.
But it got really entertaining when Greta Thunberg, in a liaison from the school she goes to, started joking with principal Nathan Grossman.
– When he started talking about how it could probably be a slightly bigger movie, I thought: But it was just Nathan. Not even a sound engineer. I thought it all felt unprofessional, he said.
On Friday afternoon, you can say that “the verdict” comes for “Greta”, or “I am Greta”, as the film is called internationally.
Will there be resounding applause after the gala screening at the film festival? What do international film critics think?
From a purely financial point of view, the movie is probably already in port. Major US cable channel Hulu has bought and will show it with a premiere on November 13. Prior to that, the film will have its theatrical release on October 16 in the US, Europe, and Australia.
Great Britain, Canada, Switzerland, New Zealand, Mexico, Poland, Portugal, South Korea, Japan, Czech Republic, Slovakia, India, China and Russia are other countries to which the film is sold.
But there was no direct rush to the press conference in the middle of the day. 30-40 journalists, approximately, in a room that occupies hundreds but in the covid-19 period it has a limited number of seats (122).

“I didn’t think it would be a movie”
He looked a bit desolate throughout the room when the producer Cecilia Nessen and the director Nathan grossman took place on the podium, together with the moderator.
But then it flashed on a giant TV screen and there it was Greta thunberg in what was probably a teacher’s room at the high school where he just started studying.
Information about to Greta Thunberg would be on the link, but she hadn’t reached many.
What did you think of turning it into a movie about your life? asked someone Greta Thunberg.
– From the beginning, I didn’t think it would be a movie like that, Nathan just started going out and filming what I did.
How does it feel that the film opens in Venice? was another question.
– This is the first time I’ve been here. It is a wonderfully beautiful city. And it would be sad if it was destroyed due to the weather by rising water even more, said Nathan Grossman.
– I agree with. Venice is a good symbol of the climate threat, Greta Thunberg said.
“Tired of everything”
Asked about the scene on board the ship on the other side of the Atlantic, when almost crying he says that it is too much for a child to take responsibility for the climate threat. Then she says that she is tired of everything, that she longs for her home.
– This is how I feel, that it should not depend on researchers and committed children and young people, it is the adults who have the power who should do something. And it probably hasn’t happened so positively since Nathan stopped filming.
One question is how intimate and close the film is to private Greta Thunberg.
– There are those who believe that Greta is manipulated by other adults to say and do things. It was important to show that this is not the case, Nathan Grossman said.
– Yes, some have claimed that I do not speak for myself, now the film shows that it is not true, said Greta Thunberg.
She also said that she has actually dreamed of becoming a researcher her entire life, of sitting in a laboratory, but realizes that she may have a bigger role as a climate activist than she is now.

Today’s great laugh
Nathan Grossman said another important thing about the film was showing that Greta is driven by a great passion for the subject, not to become a celebrity or big on social media (she has become that way anyway).
One question was how the film crew got so close to Greta Thunberg and her family.
Nathan Grossman turned to the monitor and said:
– Greta, tell me how big the team was.
That’s when Greta said that it was often just him, not even a sound engineer, and that she thought it all seemed unprofessional.
It was the great laugh of the day.
“I often say, since Greta doesn’t like her very much, she could be as easy a comedian as a climate activist,” Nathan said.
So Greta Thunberg thanked herself.
– Now I have to leave you, because my next lesson starts very soon, he said and disappeared from the screen.
Nathan Grossman got one last question, if they had any agreement on what would be in the movie or not.
– It was great for me. I made the movie the way I wanted, then showed it when it was practically finished. The only objections Greta Thunberg and Svante Thunberg (the father, who has been on all the trips) was that they wanted there to be more of everything in the movie. But not everything fits in just over an hour and a half.
