LYSEKIL. Here, Greenpeace blocks the oil port in Lysekil
The 278-meter long supertanker Grena Knutsen is currently prevented from unloading oil.
The police are on board the ship.
Just before 7:30 on Thursday night, the Greenpeace ship Rainbow Warrior initiated a blockade of the oil port at Lysekil.
– Rainbow Warrior is anchored in the canal to prevent the entry of tankers and close the transport route for Preemraff. This prevents Preem’s ongoing environmental crime, says Fernando Romo, captain of Rainbow Warrior, in a press release.
The 278 meter long Grena Knutsen super tank, flagged from the Bahamas, filled with Norwegian crude oil, cannot discharge into the controversial Preemraff oil refinery.

The environmental organization protests against Preem’s plans.
The Coast Guard is now warning the tanker to continue in Brofjord.
The flagship Rainbow Warrior 3 of the environmental organization Greenpeace has been in Bohuslän since last Tuesday. The purpose is to protest against the Preem company and its plans to expand the Lysekil refinery.
In June, the Land and Environment Court granted Preem the right to expand its Lysekil refinery, something that could make the oil company the largest single emitter of carbon dioxide in the country.
While environmental organizations believe the expansion is inconsistent with Sweden’s climate commitments, Preem says emissions would be even higher if production took place abroad.
The issue will now be decided by the government. The Green Party came out on Sunday and said no to a Preemraff expansion.
Aftonbladet is looking to Greenpeace and Preem for comment.
