The Legal Council is now giving the government the go-ahead to proceed with the consultation procedure that will involve the Sami representatives on matters of particular importance to the Sami. Reports Sameradion.
Two weeks ago, the government presented a legal advice recommendation on the legal obligation of the government, municipalities and authorities to consult the Sámi Parliament and other Sámi representatives before decisions are made on matters that are important to the Sámi. This can be, for example, land-related problems.
According to the Legal Council, there are no major obstacles for the government to present a bill, with some minor reformulations, to the Riksdag.
By July 1 of next year, the government wants a new bill to be in force.
