A woman who lost her home in the fire seeks protection from clashes between police and migrants near the city of Mytilene, Greece.
Greece estimates that it will be able to cover the thousands of migrants left homeless after the fire in the Moria refugee camp in a week.
The statement comes after days of clashes between police officers and annoying migrants who have been allowed to sleep outdoors since Wednesday.
Authorities estimate that nearly 11,000 people were left homeless after Wednesday’s fire. To date, the Greek authorities have offered 3,000 of these people tent sites in the new Kara Tepe camp, a few kilometers from the former site of Moria. However, only a hundred migrants have voluntarily agreed to settle in the new tent camp.
However, the Greek Migration Minister, Notis Mitarachi, is optimistic about the prospect of resolving the situation.
– Within five days, the operation will be complete and everyone will be inside the new camp, the minister told reporters at the scene.
