Mantas Armalis, 28, returned to Djurgården before this season and also had the opportunity at the premiere.
The 28-year-old stopped 40 shots in the afternoon and made sure it went all the way to the end of the second period before Frölunda took the lead when Mattias Norlinder threw the puck at full speed.
Djurgården then went for a final force and then came the last goal from the empty net with 17 seconds left in the match.
-You want to win in the end, I’m disappointed that we lose, says the goalkeeper who sometimes kept the team in the game.
– It was hot out there, although there was no audience. It felt good to be able to stand up and help the team, even though we lost, Armalis says.
Roger Rönnberg: “Very impressed”
Frölunda coach Roger Rönnberg was impressed by the zoo keeper.
– We play fast and create many opportunities. So I don’t know if it’s our efficiency or Armali’s defensive play that prevents us from scoring more goals. I am very impressed by many of his saves, says Rönnberg at the post-match press conference.
Svedberg petad
Niklas Svedberg sat on the DIF bench and watched a high-playing Armalis possibly land a grip on the first sword.
– We felt that Mantas was where we wanted it to be, so it seemed completely correct to put it in the goal. Then there are two incredibly good goalkeepers, so it will be a blast to know who is standing, says Djurgård coach Robert Ohlsson of the goalkeeper situation.
Armalis himself welcomes the competition.
– Svedberg is a really good goalkeeper and we improve ourselves and others. It’s really not a new situation for me, you need two good goalkeepers, concludes Mantas Armalis.
