At 12:57 p.m. on Tuesday, an automatic alarm was activated in Sigtunaskolan Humanistiska läroverket. Seven minutes later, the rescue service was at the school site and encountered smoke and fire both in the basement and on the ground floor of the sports hall, where the fire has spread to the ceiling.

– We are there with four stations and we work both externally with cut-off extinguishers and with some smoke divers. We’ll be there all night, says Lars Lindberg, commanding officer of the Greater Stockholm Fire Brigade, at three in the evening.

Currently there is no risk of spread, but the rescue service still does not have the fire under control.

– It is difficult when it burns in many different places and it is an old building. It will probably be difficult to get a good handle on this in the near future, he says.

No person should have been in the building when the fire broke out.

– We have launched a preliminary arson investigation as the fire is believed to have started. No one is injured, but there will be significant property damage, says Fredrik Andersson, a police duty officer in the Stockholm region.
