A strong fire in Hisingen in Gothenburg has caused a large cloud of smoke over the city. Several trucks parked next to each other in an industrial area are burning and several explosions have been heard, likely from tires or pressure tanks affected by the fire, according to the rescue service.

– We are fighting fire. The goal is to prevent spread to other trucks, as well as the building, says chief of staff Bosse Andersson at the Greater Gothenburg Rescue Service.

It is unclear how the fire started. There is no information that any person has been harmed.

The export street in Hisingen has been blocked by traffic due to the tendency to smoke.

– The smoke was very serious at first, but now it has gotten a little damp when we arrived and started to extinguish it.

The smoke is moving northeast, which is favorable since there are no residential areas nearby in that direction, Andersson says.

The Swedish Transport Administration previously warned that smoke restricted vision in the E45.

The alarm came just after 5pm.
