MSB CEO Dan Eliasson recently returned home after a two-week Christmas trip to the Canary Islands, which drew strong criticism.
Even within the government, the trip has provoked reactions, according to information to Aftonbladet.
– Shows rare bad judgment. I think they are now reviewing their assignment, says a source.
The revelation that Dan Eliasson, general director of the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency, has spent his Christmas and New Year holidays in the Canary Islands, has provoked strong reactions.
Even within the government, the issue is now of the highest priority, several sources with knowledge tell Aftonbladet.
– There is hardly anyone who has not reacted to this, says a source and continues:
– Shows rare bad judgment.
“Generally handled with discretion”
Sources note that the general uproar surrounding Dan Eliasson’s Christmas trip has now forced one to deviate from the usual routines.
– Things like this are generally handled with discretion.
It remains to be seen whether trust in Eliasson is damaged.
– I think the government is reviewing its allocation now.

Eliasson: be necessary
It was Saturday night that Dan Eliasson landed in Arlanda after spending two weeks with his family in Las Palmas.
In an interview with Expressen, Eliasson says that he was free and telecommuting during the time he was there, and that he judged the trip to be “justified”.
– I have given up many trips during this pandemic, but thought this was necessary. I have a daughter who lives and works here. And I celebrated Christmas with her and my family, she tells the newspaper.

“I hope they fire him”
Eliasson’s actions have drawn strong reactions. On Sunday, Göran Greider, the leading Social Democratic writer in Dala-Demokraten, came out and criticized Dan Eliasson’s actions.
“On Monday, Eliasson will be fired by the government. I hope.”
People are also upset on MSB’s Facebook page. A health worker writes:
I hope Dan Eliasson has a really good end of the year in the Canary Islands. In the meantime, in the health system we can work to ensure that Sweden stays when he is happy to return.
Aftonbladet has asked Interior Minister Mikael Damberg (S) and Prime Minister Stefan Löfven for a comment on how they view Dan Eliasson’s actions. None of them have any comment to give at this time, they say through their press secretaries.
