Now it is completely clear. The government has made its decision and Erik Renström will be the rector of the University of Lund. He will take office at the beginning of the year and will be formally installed in a ceremony on January 22. The ceremony will be designed in accordance with restrictions in effect at the time and the recommendations of the Public Health Agency, the University writes in a press release.

Erik Renström is a physician, professor of medicine and currently dean of the University’s Faculty of Medicine. He was one of three candidates who in September, after a lengthy selection process, were presented to the University College, which represents the University’s employees and students.

The other two candidates were Mia Rönnmar, Dean of the Faculty of Law, and Sylvia Schwaag Sergeroch, Vice Chancellor of Lund University.

In the first round, Erik Renström received 20 votes, Mia Rönnmar received 16 votes and Sylvia Schwaag-Serger 11 votes. One member voted blank.

In a second round, the college was able to vote for the two main candidates, and then Erik Renström won by 27 votes to Mia Rönnmars 19. Two members voted blank.

The University Board needed only a quarter of an hour to unanimously decide to follow the University’s recommendation and nominate Renström as the next rector.

The current rector Torbjörn von Schantz will leave his post at the end of the year but will continue to work as a professor at Lund University.
