Gothenburg’s Christmas tree was cut down prematurely

Just three days after Christmas Eve, the city of Gothenburg decided to cut down the Christmas tree.

– We took it off this afternoon, too bad. It was blowing too much and I ran the risk of falling on the square. Unfortunately, unfortunately, says Linda Nygren, director of the parks and nature administration in the city of Gothenburg.

Sunday he threw strong winds in Sweden’s second largest city, which caused the large conifer to tilt. A concerned Gothenburger called the rescue service.

– Then we checked and made a blockade, says Lars Larsson at the Greater Gothenburg rescue center.

A couple of hours later, the tree was cut down.

– It was very boring because there is not much else to look at now. It is usually there until the twentieth day, says Linda Nygren.

This year’s fir was 105 in the scheme that adorned Gustav Adolf’s square at Christmas. This one was 45 years old, he was found in Viared on the outskirts of Borås and he was 15 meters tall. Linda Nygren says that great care is taken when selecting the specimen.

– It is always a process when choosing the Christmas tree. It’s a bit of pride. So it was very sad.

The Parks and Nature Administration failed to transport the two and a half ton pine plant. It will remain in the square until Monday.
