Gothenburg will be 400 years old next year and the plan was a huge celebration.
But in early August, Göteborg & Co proposed that the city’s 400th anniversary be postponed as a result of the ongoing corona pandemic.
– There are conflicting voices, but one assessment I have made is that more people are more interested in putting it off, said Jonas Ransgård (M), then president of Gothenburg & Co.
One of the alternatives was to postpone the celebration until 2023.
Now it’s finished
And now it is clear that this will be the case, writes GP, as the parties agree.
In a complaint, the municipal board parties, in addition to SD, write:
“There are many uncertainties in the ongoing pandemic that make working on the 400th anniversary challenging. There is great uncertainty about how the celebration could be carried out ”.
However, a smaller celebration is planned also in 2021.
GP writes that the decision will be made formally at the municipal board on Wednesday. It still applies that the celebration should not cost more than 100 million.
