In November, the new Västtrafik areas will be introduced, where 70 areas will be three.

• Zone A: the ticket is valid in Gothenburg, Mölndal, Partille and Öckerö

• Zone B: Ale, Alingsås, Härryda, Kungsbacka, Kungälv, Lerum, Lilla Edet, Stenungsund and Tjörn.

• Zone C: other municipalities in the Västra Götaland region.

In April, the public transport board decided on ticket prices in the new zones. Most tickets are affected, including the single ticket.

Today, a trip to Gothenburg costs 30 SEK. The same price applies in the neighboring municipalities of Mölndal, Partille and Öckerö. On November 4, the four municipalities will merge to form zone A. It will therefore be possible to travel in Gothenburg, Mölndal, Partille and Öckerö with the same ticket, but it will also be more expensive.

The price rises from SEK 30 to SEK 34, an increase of just over 13 percent.

New Västtrafik prices

In Stockholm, the single ticket will be cheaper

In 2009, a single ticket from Gothenburg cost 25 SEK. When the price rises even further this fall, the single ticket has become nine kronor or 36 percent more expensive in just over ten years.

In Stockholm, a single ticket about ten years ago cost SEK 43. Today: SEK 37.

In the Swedish capital, the price of a single ticket (which can be used throughout Stockholm County) has fallen by almost 14 percent in ten years, while the corresponding ticket in Gothenburg will have increased by 36 percent.

At the same time, price changes mean that some single tickets will be cheaper, for example it will be cheaper to travel between Gothenburg and Mölndal or between Gothenburg and Partille.

For Gothenburgers, it’s not just the single ticket that gets more expensive, the monthly card also goes up in price. In Gothenburg Municipality, it currently costs SEK 775. This fall, the corresponding ticket (30 days in zone A) will cost 795 SEK, an increase of 20 SEK or 2.5%.

On the other hand, it will be cheaper for those currently traveling with the monthly Göteborg ++ card (eg travelers between Gothenburg and Kungsbacka, Härryda or Kungälv) which costs 1,455 SEK. In the future, they will need a two-zone ticket for zones A and B, which costs SEK 1,195, a price reduction of SEK 260 per month.
