Registering at the wrong address can be a way for criminals to stay away from justice or steal grants. In order to increase the pressure on criminals and tackle the problems that false population registration can bring, the government has commissioned the Swedish Revenue Agency to lead an intergovernmental work involving a total of twelve authorities.
The purpose is set pressure on organized crime when an incorrect population register is used. The city of Gothenburg will be a pilot municipality when the investment is launched.
“The Alliance in Gothenburg is very positive that Gothenburg will be a pilot municipality to find better forms of cooperation, but also to be able to influence the new legislation that is needed to be able to work more effectively against organized crime”, says Axel Josefson (M), chairman of the city council in Gothenburg, in a press release.
On behalf of the government It includes mapping strategic addresses suspected of being used for systematic errors in the population registry, strengthening control of said addresses, and developing methods that facilitate cooperation between authorities to access incorrect population records that may be linked to organized crime.
“We need to know who lives within the municipal boundaries and that the grants are paid on the proper basis. Organized crime criminals should not be able to hide their identity or participate in subsidies to which they are not entitled through false addresses, “says Axel Josefson in the press release.
