The search for gold in damallsvenskan becomes very dramatic.

With a 2-0 away win against Umeå, Gothenburg claimed the league lead after Rosengård crossed Linköping.

Before the final sprint, Gothenburg leads the series by one point.

– Wonderful. Now we have a good train ride home, says forward Rebecka Blomqvist, who made it 1-0 early in the game and eased the nervous pressure on the team a bit.

In total, he has already scored nine goals, three of them in the last two games.

– It’s fun to score goals and nice for the team that arrived so early. We had great respect for Umeå, he is a good newcomer, she says.

In terms of form, Gothenburg are on top and now have their fourth straight triple without conceding a return goal. Rosengård’s form looks more dubious after the team only took two points in their last two matches.

Errors behind the goal

Unsurprisingly, the new league leaders took firm control of the game early on. Umeå are a midfield team, strengthened by their last 0-0 away game against Rosengård. The home team has a safe defensive game and played safely in most of the difficult situations they initially ended up in.

But a mistake in the eleventh minute of the game gave Gothenburg a free chance. It was a missed back pass that was intercepted in midfield and gave Rebecka Blomqvist a free kick that didn’t miss.

After Gothenburg’s 1-0 goal, Umeå advanced in the game without being able to create much forward.

– It was a bit of a back and forth, we have a lot of ball but Umeå is dangerous in his counterattacks. It was important to respect them and fully concentrate throughout the game. And we had that, says Blomqvist.

The trend was also the same in the second half. Gothenburg maintained its grip on the game without reaching any real scoring opportunities. Many curves did not lead to any danger.

On the other hand, the most important thing was not to drop anything backwards and you did it well. Umeå had great difficulty advancing in the game.

“We wanted to go to second place, but Umeå has a good defensive game,” says Rebecka Blomqvist.

Blackstenius back

With 20 minutes remaining, Gothenburg star Stina Blackstenius made his entrance from the substitute bench, after just over a month away with a thigh injury. In the 89th minute, Blackstenius almost took the lead on the scoreboard when Filippa Angeldal came in from the right.

The battle for Crown Princess Victoria’s gold and trophy looks dramatic until the end.

Gothenburg will then take on bottom bottom Uppsala at home next weekend. Rosengård meets Kristianstad in a Skånederby.

– We will only continue as we have said all season: Really do what we are supposed to do in every game. Now we will enjoy this and then we will face Uppsala this weekend, says Rebecka Blomqvist.
