Elevation police received reports from relatives of two caregivers in Torslanda during March and April. The caregivers, both born in the 1930s, had received an order.
– We have received notifications from family members of seniors that they have been stolen from property, jewelry and gold. With the help of cargo scanners, we have found properties in a mortgage bank that can be linked with home service personnel. Therefore, they have been established as suspects. Currently, a man is suspected of theft, says Håkan Jarnevall, an investigator with Hisings Police.
“A low form of crime”
On Wednesday, police arrested a man employed by the home service. At work, he visited stolen caregivers and after questioning and searching the home, the man was likely arrested for serious robbery.
– It is a low form of crime that hits the weakest in society hard. They sit at home and steal your belongings. I have worked as a preliminary investigator for many years and have encountered this type of crime in the past, says Håkan Jarnevall.
It cannot respond if more older people have been affected. But this type of crime has happened before.
– It is a very vulnerable situation for the caregiver. People you don’t know who come home with you may be in a wheelchair and not realize what’s going on. It is a difficult situation, ”says Håkan Jarnevall.
