On Friday, the city of Gothenburg decided with new measures to stop the spread of the infection in the municipality. Among other things, the City Library and the museums of the municipality will close, that is, the Art Museum, the City Museum, Röhsska and the Art Gallery, from this weekend.
How long the city library and museums will be closed depends on how the infection spreads and the decision will apply until further notice.
During the evening, Stora teatern also announced that it will be closed to the public for the time being.

– The city library is spacious and spacious, but many of the library visitors arrive by bus and tram from all over the city, so this is primarily a way to reduce pressure on public transport, says the president from the culture committee Ann Catrine Fogelgren (left).
Joint political decision
It was she who at lunchtime made the president’s formal decision to close the Municipal Library and the city’s museums, but emphasizes that there is political agreement in the municipality’s presidium on the measures.
– Yes it is. This is not something I made up myself. But, therefore, it is a temporary closure until the end of November. Then we will see what happens. The goal is for Gothenburg to stop the spread of the infection.
Now he undertakes extensive practical work on how to remove the reserved books on loan and, above all, return them to the Municipal Library. They are also looking for various digital solutions and are thinking the best they can about how the business should be managed in the other libraries in the municipality, which therefore will not be closed.
Probably no opening hours changed
– We are thinking about opening hours and other functions of the library and the like. For example, there will no longer be program activity there, but we have hardly had that lately.
Ann Catrine Fogelgren, however, sees a problem in limiting the library’s opening hours, something that was previously on the agenda.
– The shorter the opening time of the libraries, the more crowded the premises will be. On the contrary, it may be good to extend the opening hours as much as possible. But they are likely open at the same time as today.
The service moves to other libraries
The municipality will also place “laptops” in the slightly larger libraries in Frölunda, Biskopsgården and Angered for those who do not have a computer or Internet access at home.
– We are simply eliminating much of the service that the city library offers today, says Ann Catrine Fogelgren.
On Friday, the municipality also decided to introduce a restraining order on the city’s nursing homes.
