Since March 8, Göran Lambertz has been detained on suspicion of rape, he was arrested on Thursday for probable cause by the Uppsala District Court.
Since the case became known, he has been described as the best attorney. But through his lawyer, he now greets that he wants to appear by name.
– He has explicitly told me, says Ola Salomonsson.
– You think you can go out and have your back straight the same way you think you can in this police investigation. He hasn’t done anything wrong, he thinks.
Göran Lambertz is one of the most prominent lawyers in Sweden. Until his retirement in 2017, he held various positions of responsibility, as Chancellor of Justice between 2001 and 2009 and as Advisor to the Supreme Court.
Even in the years ago retired, has continued working. In a personal portrait in Eskilstuna-Kuriren that was drawn a year ago for Lambertz’s 70th birthday, he said that he spends a third of his time with “family, friends and treats”, a third with lecturing and writing articles and a third to “help people and organizations, sometimes with legal issues.”
Göran Lambertz was also active until his arrest at the Legal Council, which on behalf of the government reviews the laws.
The day after his arrest, two of his team council colleagues wanted to meet with him, but his email with time suggestions went unanswered.
– Then we understood why it was, but then we did not know anything, says one of the team’s team council colleagues.
Göran Lambertz appealed the arrest warrant, but it was rejected by the Court of Appeal. From jail, Lambertz has drawn up a handwritten brief that was received by the Court of Appeals last Friday.
Ola Salomonsson does not want to comment on the presentation.
– That part belongs to an important part of the investigation, there is a circumstance that has been discussed, he says.
In the letter, Lambertz says that the interrogator misinterpreted something he said and that he is concerned that this has affected his credibility with the district attorney and district court. Much of the presentation is classified, but Lambertz writes: “This may well be interpreted one way or another … As I said at the arrest hearing, I am 90% sure it was her.”
Göran Lambertz met the woman who is now accused of raping when she herself was accused of defamation. He then contacted Göran Lambertz for legal advice.
The alleged rape took place at Göran Lambertz’s home on Christmas Eve, according to the prosecutor.
According to Ola Salomonsson, Göran Lambertz takes the allegations and the arrest seriously.
– Think that the staff has been helpful and accommodating. You can do it, it doesn’t torment you.
Neither the prosecutor nor the plaintiff’s lawyer want to comment on Göran Lambertz’s presentation to the Court of Appeal.
