Gold does not save MFF finances a crown season

A gold in the Swedish Championship does not save the economy a crown season. However, a season on the continent 2021 can stop Malmö FF from falling. We have the opportunity to play in the Champions League and we know what it can give, says the club’s general manager, Niclas Carlnén.

During the crowded crown season, Swedish men’s football clubs are bleeding and Malmö FF is still waiting for the club to get a negative result of approximately five million euros. Despite the fact that on Sunday MFF secured the gold of the Swedish Championship via 4-0 at home against Sirius.

– The gold of the Swedish Championship in itself does not generate much income, but we have the opportunity to play in the Champions League and we know what it can give. says MFF’s in Niclas Carlnén.

You can qualify for the new tournament

MFF has reached four group matches in the Champions League (2014, 2015) and Europa League (2018, 2019) in recent years and now has around 50 million euros in the bank. For next season, the club team tournaments in Europe will be remade and only the Swedish champion team will be able to reach the finals of the Champions League and Europa League.

The other three Swedish clubs will qualify for the new Europa Conference League (ECL) tournament, so it was very important to win the Swedish Championship gold this year.

– Very important. Even before, the only possibility was to get into the Champions League and win the title. We have done it several times and we must continue to do so to have the level of ambition that we have. And our goal is to be able to establish ourselves in Europe and then the condition is that we win the Allsvenskan as often as possible, says Carlnén.

Although the ECL is not expected to provide as many millions as the two big tournaments, Carlnén emphasizes that the tournament is important.

“Great alternative”

– It’s a great alternative and that’s where most of the Swedish teams will be. It will give us (the Swedish clubs) more experience and more ranking points as a nation, which may lead us to an easier path to the Champions League and the Europa League, he says.

Malmö is trying to plan its budget over a three-year period, but it is difficult to predict what 2021 will be in light of the pandemic.

– It is very difficult for us to look towards 2021. Will we have an audience on April 1 when the series begins? We do not know. There are too many questions to be able to say right now what risks there are next season, says Niclas Carlnén.

Infected MFF Captain

Malmö FF team captain Anders Christiansen tested positive for COVID-19 after the team secured the Swedish championship gold at home against Sirius on Sunday night.

Christiansen felt symptoms after the final signal, celebrations and interviews and performed a quick test that showed a positive result, Malmö FF writes on its website.

Following the test response, MFF canceled the planned gold dinner, which would be held for everyone in and around the men’s team.

“Anders didn’t feel anything before the game. He made a lot of effort on the field, celebrated afterward and did interviews, but when the adrenaline subsided he felt listless and his stomach hurt. When the other players left by bus, Anders stayed with our team doctor and he did a quick test which came back positive, “says Malmö FF sporting director Daniel Andersson.

To be confirmed

Christiansen’s test results will be confirmed with a regular PCR test shortly, MFF writes.

The club affirms that all the players and leaders of the men’s team were evaluated in the days before the match and that afterwards they all showed negative results.

MFF is now pausing activities for Team A and their staff for a week.

The coach also infected

On Thursday, news came that head coach Jon Dahl Tomasson tested positive for covid-19 and was later disconnected from his duties. The club later stated that there was another case established in the administration staff. It will be the assistant coach Remy Reijmjerse, who was not in the gold match either.

– I do not know of other cases than the two leaders and Anders Christiansen, says President Anders Pålsson to Sydsvenskan.

Now a two-week break awaits for the national team. Malmö FF’s next game is against Hammarby on November 22.

Anders Christiansen, 30, was selected to play for the Danish national team, including against Sweden in Copenhagen on Wednesday. It won’t happen now.
