A US company that makes voting machines has filed a defamation lawsuit in court against former President Donald Trump’s attorney, Rudy Giuliani.

It is the Dominion company that accuses Giuliani of having ruined his reputation by spreading the “big lie” that the voting machines were part of a comprehensive fraud scheme during the US presidential election in November last year.

Since the election, which Democrat Joe Biden won, Republican Trump has claimed that the outcome was rigged and that his electoral victory was “stolen” from him. Trump has been unable to present any evidence for his claims. But Giuliani has traveled across the country and kingdom, pointing out Dominion as involved in the alleged deception.

The company is now claiming $ 1.3 billion in damages from Giuliani (about 10.8 billion crowns).

A senior Dominion employee also filed his own lawsuit against the entire Trump campaign. The employee writes in his filing that he was forced to seek protection in a secret location after death threats from Trump supporters.

Giuliani and his attorney Robert Costello have so far not commented on Dominion’s initiative. But last week, Giuliani, who has also been mayor of New York, said in a radio interview that he was attacked for “his right to freedom of expression and for his right to defend his client.”

Dominion, for his part, writes in the filing that he wants Giuliani to be brought to justice “so that the correct facts are established” and to be lifted “by the employees and by the electoral process.”
