This was stated by Microsoft in a press release Monday afternoon. With the deal, Microsoft “will accelerate its gaming business.”
The acquired company is behind games like The Elder Scrolls, Doom, and Fallout.
With this acquisition, Microsoft will increase the number of creative studio teams from 15 to 23. The intention is to bring future Bethesda releases to the Xbox Game Pass cloud service the same day they are released for Xbox or PC.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella says in a comment:
– Games are the broadest category in the entertainment industry, as people from all over the world turn to them to hang out, hang out, and play with their friends. As an established game developer, Bethesda has achieved success in all categories of games.
In the press release, Microsoft writes that “the gaming industry is moving from a device-centric era to a player-centric era powered by new technology that allows you to play with friends anywhere and on any device.”
The acquisition includes publishing offices and development studios around the world with more than 2,300 employees, including Bethesda Softworks, Bethesda Game Studios, ID Software, Zenimax Online Studios, Arkane, Machinegames, Tango Gameworks, Alpha Dog and Roundhouse Studios. The structure and management of Bethesda are included in the acquisition.
Microsoft expects the deal to close in the second half of 2021.
