Ghislaine Maxwell was arrested in early July after months of speculation about her whereabouts. Maxwell lived in both the United States and the United Kingdom, but was eventually arrested in the state of New Hampshire after a jury decided to prosecute her.

According to prosecutor Audrey Strauss Ghislaine Maxwell is said to have lured 14-year-old girls to Jeffrey Epstein’s homes. It is said that she got in touch with the girls and pretended to be their friends and took them to the movies and shopping. Epstein, who took his own life in August last year pending trial, is said to have subjected the girls to various sexual assaults.

On Monday, a prosecutor in Manhattan rejected a request for bail from Maxwell’s attorneys to allow Maxwell to spend time awaiting trial at his home with an electronic foot shackle.

The test date is set until July 12, 2021 and Maxwell risks 35 years in prison if convicted of all charges, including human trafficking and perjury.

But even though bail of 234 million Swedish crowns was proposed, Judge Alison Nathan said no after speaking with federal prosecutors who assessed the risk of Maxwell fleeing as high, writes the Reuters news agency.

Ghislaine Maxwell, 59, is the daughter of media mogul and MP Robert Maxwell (1923-1991).
