First the sound of a drill was heard, and then three men in dark clothes entered the Duisburg customs office.
Then the men filled their white van with SEK 66 million from the office and drove off.
– The robbery was professionally planned and carried out, the prosecutor in the case told Bild.
Early in the morning of November 1, witnesses heard a drilling noise near the customs office in the German city of Duisburg. Shortly afterwards, three dark-clad men were seen loading something into a white van and leaving the scene.
When customs personnel arrived at the scene later in the morning, they saw a hole in a wall of the vault and that 6.5 million euros were missing, corresponding to just over 66 million crowns.
According to witnesses, it took about three hours to fill the van with the 6.5 million euro notes.
“Professionally planned”
According to the German newspaper Bild, investigators believe the perpetrators used the drill to bypass the multi-locking steel door that was intended to protect the large sum of money in the customs office vault.
– The robbery was professionally planned and carried out. Three unidentified perpetrators used a drill to enter the vault from an adjacent room in the basement, German police said in a statement.
Research inside jobs
It is now being investigated whether the perpetrators may have received clues from customs personnel and whether it may be an inside job.
