Gekås Ullared does not reduce the maximum visitor limit

It was last week that the Halland region, like several other regions before it, had new local restrictions to adhere to in order to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

Boris Lennerhov, CEO of shopping giant Gekås in Ullared, called the expected message, saying that department stores lost 40 percent of their customers this weekend, compared to the same weekend last year.

2000 clients per day

– The advantage now is that in any case there are not many people in the department stores. Now there are no more than 2000 per day. So each visitor has 22 square meters. Not many stores can offer that. It is very airy, if I want to see something positive in this, Lennerhov said.

But there is no thought to reduce the ceiling for the number of customers in department stores, Lennerhov tells the industry magazine Market.

– It is not necessary because there are not many people here, even at the moment, says Boris Lennerhov to Market.

As of this spring, a maximum of 3,500 customers can be in department stores at the same time, compared to 8,000 normal customers.

Boris Lennerhov also does not see that a department store closure could be relevant. The only reason Lennerhov can think about is if the staff get sick. Only two of a total of 1,600 employees have been infected and none of them have been working.

Lose half of sales

Lennerhov recently told GT that he expects to lose 40 to 50 percent of sales in October and November, the time when customers typically flock to department stores to shop at Christmas. He said at the same time that he is not worried despite the financial situation.

– You have to cut costs and try to balance so that the company does not get out of control.

GT visited the department store in July and then customers testified about the congestion.
