Geelybolag notifies the dismissal of 180 employees in Gothenburg

The Cevt company has worked, among other things, on the development of the car models Polestar 2 and Volvo XC40. Today the company, which is based in Gothenburg’s Lindholmen, employs around 2,000 people, including several consultants.

Now the company warns 180 permanent employees due to dismissal. Cevts CEO Mats Fägerhag tells Göteborgs-Posten that the background is that the company is reorganizing its operations.

– As we change direction, redundancy arises. The layoff of 180 positions is a ceiling, now MBL negotiations with the union begin.

DN has previously reported on the major restructuring taking place in the auto industry. When Volvo Cars presented its semi-annual results this summer, it was emphasized once again that the focus going forward will be on electrification and digital development, rather than what is called hardware: the physical car.

For Göteborgs-Posten Cevt describes a similar development, which means that the company will work with technology for autonomous vehicles and electrification. In the future, the product will not be a privately owned car, but rather a “mobility vehicle”, offering the user flexible ways of getting around.
