Christopher, 63, was attacked from behind by two masked robbers outside his home.
Neighbor Catrin found out what was happening and managed to stop the robbery.
– There are many things you can do that do not include physically intervening, he says.
At around 10:00 pm on Friday, Christopher Gammeddehewa drove to his home in Sätra, north of Gävle. He parked in a garage and started walking home.
– I felt that someone was close to me. I looked back but didn’t see anyone. It was pretty dark outside, he says.
Suddenly, while Christopher was walking on a lawn about 15 feet[15 m]from his door, two people attacked him from behind. He fell to the ground. Something that Gefle Dagblad was the first to tell.
One of the perpetrators covered his mouth, the other searched his jacket for valuables.
– I screamed as loud as I could, he says.

I heard muffled screams
One of those who heard Christopher’s screams was Catrin Ström, 39. Live right next to the place. At the time, she was sitting at home in the living room with a separate resident and children watching television.
– I had just opened the window because it was a bit stuffy. I heard a weak cry. It sounded like someone was holding the mouth of the person who was yelling, says Catrin.
She understood that something was wrong and immediately went to the window and looked out.
– Then I saw that ten meters outside the window a man was lying on the grass with two masked men on top, he says.
Catrin opened the window and yelled: “What the hell are you doing? I’ll call the police!“
They nodded and ran out of there when I yelled at them, she says.
Catrin actually called the police and then turned to Christopher, who stood up. She asked him how he was and waited for the police. They both testified.
Grateful Catrin
Christopher was not injured in the attack. Nor does he believe that thieves would want to harm him without taking valuables. They were given a car key and a flashlight. Thank Catrin for making such a small change.
– If I hadn’t screamed like he did, I would have lost the mobile and the wallet I had in my backpack, he says.
The day after the incident, he gave her flowers and a keychain with the text “You are valuable.”
– What has happened is unpleasant. I will receive assault alarms for me, my wife and our friends. I will also meet a psychologist, says Christopher Gammeddehewa.
For Catrin, it was obvious to intervene.
– There is much talk of civil courage. I understand that many are afraid to act. But there are many things you can do that do not include physically intervening. For example, you can call or call the police like I did, says Catrin Ström.
