It had been 284 days since he scored a goal.

But now he broke the target drought.

Gareth Bale has scored his first goal since returning to Tottenham and secured the victory against Brighton.

Gareth Bale returned to Tottenham during the summer transfer window. He has not yet been allowed to start a match in the Premier League, but tonight against Brighton he made his second appearance.

It was 1-1 when Bale got on the plane. 284 days had passed since he scored, then with Real Madrid, in the Copa del Rey. Now he was eager to break the target drought.

Bale’s nickname

Sergio Reguilón appeared at the right moment near the post and led him past the goalkeeper. There, Bale stood in the right place and was able to nod the ball. The goal, which is Tottenham’s first in more than seven years, gave them a 2-1 lead. It also gave the London club victory in the match, as the remaining 20 minutes were scoreless.

It was a happy Bale who was interviewed after the game.

– Of course it’s a nice feeling. You want to make a good impression when you walk in from the bank, so I’m very happy. But Reguilon should also have a lot of credibility for the goal, especially since it was his right foot, he laughs, on the Viaplay broadcast.

Tottenham’s first goal was scored from a penalty, which was scored by Harry Kane. Brighton’s goal was scored by Tariq Lamptey, after a good run and a clever pass from teammate Pascal Gross.

Tottenham now move up to second place in the league, two points behind Liverpool.
