At 03 o’clock in the evening on Sunday, a fire alarm occurred in a garage in Gnesta in the municipality of Södertälje.

They have chosen to evacuate nearby properties because explosive substances are stored there.

About 50 people in 18 properties have been evacuated, according to police.

– Some have gone to relatives and acquaintances, but the municipality has also provided a school for evacuation, says Ola Österling, press spokesman for the Stockholm Police.

“It can be a long story”

The rescue service may let the building catch fire.

– The rescue service estimates that it will not be possible to extinguish, so it can be a long story, that you should let the entire garage burn for safety reasons.

There are no people injured and there are no suspicions of crime at this time.

The roads to Gnesta, highways 57 and 224 are also closed to traffic, writes LT.

The rescue service tells the newspaper that you may need to remain at the scene for 24 hours.

– We don’t risk the firefighters and we don’t get too close. There have been a knock or two at the site and it may have been one of the bottles, says Per Tillander, operations manager for the Södertörn fire protection association.
