Two men were shot dead in Sörmland within hours.
Police are investigating links to gang crimes and fear retaliation.
– The level of risk is high, says Mikael Backman, police area manager in Sörmland.
At around 8pm Thursday night, a 16-year-old boy was shot and killed in Nyfors, Eskilstuna. According to information from Aftonbladet, someone opened fire from a car.
About four hours later, a 21-year-old man was shot and killed at a school in Brandkärr, Nyköping.
– We do not see clear indications of any connection. It seems to be a coincidence what caused them to happen very close to each other. says Mikael Backman, area manager for the police in Sörmland.
Police fear retaliation
The murders are investigated in separate investigations. No one has yet been arrested as a suspect in the crime. The police are silent on the details and circumstances of the events, but suspect that the two shots are related to organized crime.
– Our priority is to counter retaliation. We are now working intelligently and taking steps to prevent the situation we find ourselves in from escalating, he says.

– More or less. But yes, we had some knowledge of both, he says.
The police have launched a special incident in connection with the two murders.
– This means that we can use the resources of the entire region and now we are getting stronger. The phenomenon of shootings with young people involved is not only national, but also here in Sörmland. Now we want to recreate security and this issue is high on our agenda, he says.
“Great failure of society”
After the act, the police authority collaborates with actors from the different municipalities.
– We have a good and powerful collaboration. It is a great failure for society that young people are affected and commit such acts of violence. It is our responsibility to look for conditions and analyze issues to prevent more youth from being affected and recruited into criminal settings. It is important to emphasize that we as a police authority cannot do this alone, he says.
