IFK Gothenburg fired coach Poya Asbaghi after Allsvenskan’s thirteenth consecutive game without a win.
The Alliance’s brother, Gais, has a little more in the shadows built an almost equally extensive suite at the Superettan. When the Greens and Blacks raced to face Trelleborg in Gamla Ullevi on Friday night, they had not won since July 8, ten games in a row without a win.
And in the 15 games played, Gais had only scored ten goals.
Touched the pole
But it was the guests who had the first opportunity already in the fourth minute when Erik Andersson in good position fired for the ball to touch the outside of Mathias Karlsson’s left post.
Gais’ top scorer, Mervan Celik (three goals), had an even better position this year, when a Niklas Andersén post in the 26th minute passed over the entire Trelleborg defense and hit him in the furthest part of the area penalty.
Celik fired, but Andreas Larsen had no trouble saving.
Bid on a location
Two minutes later, Gais goalkeeper Mathias Karlsson invited the opponents into position when he put the ball directly on Herman Hallberg, who from a long distance missed on the empty goal.
The dividend for the home team, however, came already in the second minute of the second half.
Gais made a good attack that ended with Häcken’s new acquisition, Adnan Maric, who handed the ball to safety Julius Lindberg. He received the ball and shot clearly to the right of Andreas Larsen.
– It was extremely important to get the first goal, considering how we equaled this ghost, says Stefan Jacobsson speaking of the long line without victory.
The first goal in Gais
Gai’s eleventh goal of the season and Lindberg’s first at the club.
Just two minutes later, Julius Lindberg had the opportunity to score his second goal. But this time goalkeeper Larsen came out and headed for the corner.
Trelleborg took over in the quest for the tie, but Gais was always dangerous on the counterattacks, where Adnan Maric and Mervan Celik found each other better and better.
– They took over almost immediately after our goal. You could see how enthralled we were with the long suite. We get scared instead of taking it easy and being safe, says Gais’s coach.
In the 88th minute came the decisive goal.
Maric dropped the ball to August Wängberg in the right aisle. Wängberg ran a few yards and hit a perfect post to Celik, who scored his fourth goal in this year’s superetta.
In extra time, Trelleborg received a penalty that Herman Hallberg certainly pushed to 2-1.
But that was not enough. Gais took the first win since July 8.
– Right now I probably feel more relief than joy, says Stefan Jacobsson.
