On Monday the government’s budget proposal was debated in the Riksdag. In his speech, the economic-political spokesman for SD, Oscar Sjöstedt, criticized the migration policy of the Social Democrats. Oscar Sjöstedt then took the example of a man from Afghanistan who has undergone psychological research and where the results show that he has a mild intellectual disability.
Initially, the Swedish Immigration Board denied the man a residence permit, but he appealed the decision to the Immigration Court. There it was decided that the man was alternatively in need of protection and was therefore granted a temporary residence permit. Sjöstedt criticized the decision.
– What do you say about it? Instead of following an immigration policy where we attract people with low intellect, we follow a policy where we attract people with high intellect, he said.
Statement by Oscar Sjöstedt generated criticism from the Minister of Social Security, Ardalan Shekarabi (S), who on Twitter shared a video There he criticized the statement and demanded an apology from anyone with a disability.
Sjöstedt told Expressen that there is no reason to apologize.
– I have only cited the motivation of the Immigration Court regarding a decision that seemed strange to me. Obviously, it doesn’t include any disregard for people with disabilities at all, he said.
Now Funktionsrätt Sverige is also reacting strongly in Oscar Sjöstedt’s statement.
– What he says is a violation against all those living with a disability, says Elisabeth Wallenius, president of Functional Law Sweden.
– We want you to lose your positions of trust. But I don’t think it is possible because others in the same party have similar views.
What does the statement mean?
– Clarifies the attitude that the value of a person is based on the ability they have. No man should feel inferior because of his disability. As an elected politician, one should not express such thoughts.
Elisabeth Wallenius doesn’t think that enough people have reacted to Oscar Sjöstedt’s statement.
– It is terrifying that so few politicians have attacked this statement, it is hardly questioned.
Why is this so?
– Five, ten years ago, it would not have been possible to be in the Swedish Riksdag and say what he did. It is a movement when other parties do not dare to enter into a polemic with the Swedish Democrats.
DN is looking for Oscar Sjöstedt.
