The turning point in Donald Trump’s fight to change the election result came on Friday, November 13.

Rudy Giuliani accused other attorneys of lying to the president over the Oval Office speaker.

The tough pressure to change Fox News was unsuccessful. They were all angry.

Already over the summer, leading Republicans had tried to get Donald Trump to change his rhetoric on mail-in ballots. Among other things, Mitch McConnell argued that he should get his voters to vote early because many Americans were afraid of being infected with the coronavirus and pulled out to go to the polls.

But he continued to urge voters to avoid voting by mail on the grounds that they could not trust their ballots to be counted.

– It was a crazy tactic, says one of the campaign staff.

Saw a conspiracy

When Donald Trump saw the leadership in the wave’s master states sink as the votes rolled and passed in favor of Joe Biden, he saw a conspiracy.

His deputy campaign manager, Justin Clark, and a group of employees had already developed a strategy to legally contest the election if the outcome went against it. Attention was focused on minor lawsuits in different states regarding the votes that were given permission to change later, the election observers who should have been denied permission for the facilities, etc.

But they worked within the system instead of challenging and blaming the entire system. This would change later.

The state in which Donald Trump mostly put his ire in the first days after the election was Georgia, which has long been in good Republican hands but now Joe Biden barely won. The president was furious with Georgia’s Republican Governor Brian Kemp, who said he was not doing enough to challenge his own state’s election results.

“He wouldn’t be governor if it weren’t for me,” he angrily repeated to his staff and planned to call and yell at him.

In the conversation, President Kemp asked him to fight in Georgia and publicly say that the election was stolen. Kemp listened, but promised nothing.

I gave him a five percent chance

As the days passed, Donald Trump became more and more obsessed with the theory that the Dominion voting machines, used in Georgia and several other states, had been programmed to shift votes so that he would vote for Biden.

The theory, which also included links to “communist money” from China and Venezuela, among others, was brought into the team by lawyer Sidney Powell. She is a former federal prosecutor who a few days after the elections became part of the president’s legal team. How it ended up there is said to be a mystery.

In a personal portrait in the Washington Post of her fascinating experience, a campaign employee says that one day after the election, she just appeared on the staff and stayed.

– Do you think there is something there? From what I heard … Trump used to talk about the Dominion theory according to an employee close to the president.

On November 7, three important things happened. Two very public and one behind closed doors.

The big news organizations announced Joe Biden as the winner of the election around the same time that Rudy Giuliani held a press conference about alleged voter fraud in the parking lot of a landscaping company outside of Philadelphia.

That same day, Donald Trump’s campaign leadership held a rally for the president in which they said that how to change the electoral result was difficult. Complicated legal procedures were required in each wave master state and could last until December. They gave the president a five to ten percent chance of success. He said he understood.

But the days passed and you did not come close to being able to change the outcome of the elections in the processes that went through the courts. And without a victory in Pennsylvania, there was no way to change the outcome of the election.

But Giuliani and his gunsmith Jenna Ellis said the battle was not lost. During a meeting in the Oval Room, Giuliani attended by speaker. In addition to the president, the campaign was also attended by his campaign manager and vice president Mike Pence. Giuliani claimed that the other attorneys lied to the president about their chances and that there was certainly a path to victory.

Fights broke out. Deputy Campaign Manager Justin Clark cursed Giuliani and said he gave the president bad advice.

But the next day, Donald Trump tweeted that it was now Rudy Giuliani along with Jenna Ellis and Sydney Powell who were driving his legal strategy. They abandoned the smaller technical demands and instead launched a barrage of accusations against the entire electoral system.

Giuliani and his new team also made a “hostile takeover” of campaign personnel, according to the Washington Post.
