Frölunda has shown good form at Scandinavium this season, with four wins in a row.
And you got off to a dream start at the Växjös Lakers game. Already after three minutes of play, Anders Grönlund gave the home team the advantage, after he managed to recover from the scar.
A minute later, Frölunda also extended the lead to 2-0 through Johan Sundström.
I received a match penalty after the start of the dream
But soon there would be a setback.
When nearly half of the first period was played, Joel Mustonen handed a tackle to Växjö’s Fredrik Karlström in a corner, who lost his balance and flew his head off the ice.
The must was shown 5 + 20 minutes before shipment, much to Frölunda’s anger. Television images were shown when Roger Rönnberg kicked the booth.
– Whether Karlström is standing is a complete mystery, says C More commentator Patrik Westberg.
– The mustone must not be with more and that angers Rönnberg violently.
Judge: “It is high risk of injury”
Judge Marcus Linde explains how he saw the situation:
– There are two things that make boarding dangerous. The Frölunda player has his hands up behind his back and pushes. So the Växjö player is half a meter from the rim and there is a great risk of injury. Now it’s good that the Växjö player feels good again, but that’s why we landed on a five-minute suspension, he says.
Växjö used his five minute power play reducing to 2-1 through Pontus Holmberg.
The match finally ended 3-2 after Patrik Carlsson scored a goal and Holmberg signed up as a two-goal shooter.
“He doesn’t have as good a poker face as Sam”
Then Roger Rönnberg told why he reacted so strongly on the coaching staff:
– I don’t have a poker face as good as Sam, unfortunately, it shines a bit. No, but first of all I’m glad we didn’t get hurt, because he falls headlong and lands head-on. It doesn’t look good, it doesn’t look fun. So I don’t agree with the verdict, which is a game of five. It’s hard for me to see how Mustonen should be able to perceive that the opponent is a bit off balance and interrupt the inning entirely. So I haven’t seen it in slow motion afterwards but when I saw it on the jumbo it’s a hand on my back, it doesn’t seem like that much violence. I really don’t agree with that verdict, he says.
Växjö coach Sam Hallam agrees that there should not have been a match penalty.
– This is the situation that arises. He is a high speed player and the puck bounces and farts. Mustonen walks in and does what he can not to get worse there. Then he walks in and puts the numbers right in front of him. One second to board is reasonable. I think everyone would have thought that this was the natural solution to that situation. A five should be with a clearer intention, I think, he says.
