Frölunda is a team in bad shape.
The loss to Djurgården on Saturday was the third of the last four games for the league leaders.
Tuesday’s game against Växjö was a nightmare.
True, it was until the end of the first period before the first goal of the game came, when Joel Persson fired a shot from his back position.
The collapse of Frölunda: total collapse against Växjö
The second period was a total collapse for the guests.
After five minutes, Ilari Melart extended Växjö’s lead to 2-0.
After that, it took no more than 38 seconds before Ludvig Nilsson also made it 3-0.
That prompted Roger Rönnberg to act and switch goalkeeper from Johan Mattsson to Niklas Rubin.
But it didn’t help much.
Already 39 seconds later, the lead was widened again, this time by Emil Pettersson.
Lundqvist: “We play with our heads under our arms”
The collapse did not stop there. By the end of the second period, Växjös had also scored two more goals through Emil Pettersson and Richard Gynge, and moved up to a 6-0 lead.
– It’s sad. What the hell to say? We play with our heads under our arms and we walk away with incredible ease. There are counterattacks and punches everywhere, says Joel Lundqvist on C More.
Emil Pettersson from Växjö:
– I do not know. It is clear that it is good to score five goals. There are some changes that we do very well and we push them down. But the fact that we lead 6-0 may not be entirely fair in terms of the image of the match, he says.
Växjö’s infatuation continued into the third period, where he scored two new goals through Jack Drury and Richard Gynge. 8-0 was the end result.
The loss is Frölunda’s biggest since October 1999 when they lost to Malmö Redhawks 1-10.
– It would have been easy to blame the attitude but it is not the wrong one today. I think it was wrong to go against Brynäs or Leksand, they were two really bitter games where the attitude did not exist but today there was the attitude and the will, however, we escaped in some situations and we are punished extremely severely, says Roger Rönnberg.
