Frida Karlsson and Ebba Andersson arranged a Swedish double.
But Therese Johaug was superior in the world premiere.
– I am offensive and I dare to do it today, so it may not last the last two kilometers, Karlsson tells SVT.
Many expected a duel between Frida Karlsson and Therese Johaug in the 10-kilometer classic. So it was. Karlsson opened at a breakneck pace and was 1.8 seconds ahead of Johaug at 3.1 kilometers.
– I’m a little bit worried. It has opened several times with such force that it does not really respond, said SVT expert Anders Blomquist.
Andersson third with a tenth
Karlsson also lost seconds to Johaug. After halfway through the race, the Norwegian was 3.8 seconds ahead of the Swede. The distance kept increasing and Johaug finally won by 21.8 seconds ahead of Karlsson.
– Is very pretty. Good receipt. I am offensive and I dare to try it today so it may not last the last two kilometers but I am happy to try. I would have regretted more if I hadn’t dared, Karlsson tells SVT.
Behind that, Ebba Andersson fought for third place against Russia’s Tatiana Sorina and Natalja Neprjajeva, but the Swede took the podium with a scant tenth.
Maja Dahlqvist, who was second in yesterday’s sprint, also did an impressive distance race and finished tenth. Linn Svahn was also strong and came to be eleven years old, Anna Dyvik was 13 and Emma Ribom 15.
