The French government is declaring a national health crisis in the country due to the spread of the coronavirus since Saturday. To slow the acceleration of the infection in Catalonia, Spain, bars and restaurants will be closed for 15 days.
The national health crisis prevails in France as of Saturday due to the spread of the coronavirus.
In France, the emergency is declared after several weeks of a sharp rise in the number of infected and hospitalized. The situation is now such that it requires stricter control of the infection, according to the government.
The statement came after the number of hospitalized patients surpassed 9,100 for the first time since June 25.
Catalonia is also expected to have tighter control of the virus, according to the region’s leader, Pere Aragonès.
– The measures will come into effect at night between Thursday and Friday and will have an initial validity of 15 days, he says, adding that the restrictions are “painful but necessary.”
Spain is one of the European countries most affected by the Coorona pandemic. More than 33,000 people have died after being diagnosed with Covid-19 and nearly 900,000 have been confirmed to be infected.
Similar restrictions were introduced on Tuesday in the Netherlands and Northern Ireland, for example, there is a four-week closure of pubs and restaurants.
Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa also announced Wednesday that more restrictions will be imposed. Among other things, mouth protection will be mandatory outdoors in well-visited places and for certain occupational groups it will be mandatory to download and use the government application that tracks covid-19.
A maximum of 50 people can attend baptisms and weddings, and public gatherings are limited to a maximum of five people. Parties at the universities are prohibited.
Portugal, with more than ten million inhabitants, was acclaimed at the beginning of the pandemic for the determined action of the country to stop the advance of the virus. More than 90,000 have been confirmed to be infected with corona in the country and 2,117 have died from covid-19.
But recently, the infection has increased in Portugal, as in so many other places in Europe.
On Wednesday, 2,072 new cases of confirmed infection were reported, which is the highest number for Portugal during the entire pandemic. However, the authorities emphasize that the tests have increased considerably at the same time.
