More and more young people are falling into the debt trap, new statistics from the Swedish Law Enforcement Agency show.
Among people ages 18 to 30, the number of people requesting debt restructuring increased by as much as 124 percent, from 2,208 people in 2019 to 4,938 people in 2020.
They are usually quick loans for consumption, at very high interest rates.
It has no explanation
The couple Ida and Fredrick from Örebro, who sought help in the “Deluxe Trap” to get on their feet, are one example.
He had large debts in the relationship, debts that he only spoke about later.
– She had been lying to me for so long, for almost a year and a half, explains Ida, who is still willing to give her partner another chance, even though she had to put her own dreams of driving licenses and other things on hold. .
Fredrick doesn’t have a sensible explanation for how he could have burned so much money. In the home there are items that are valued at SEK 9,000, and in the garage is Fredricks mc, which is worth SEK 65,000.
It seems Ida calmly saw that Fredrick was still running short of home loans after high-interest loans.
In 2018 alone, it looked like this: January: 65,000, March: 65,000, May: 5,000, June 85,000, July: 15,000, August: 166,000, November: 400,000, December: 37,000.
Obligated 1.1 million crowns
The debts amount to 1.1 million Swedish crowns and the bailiff is knocking on the door.
– It’s a huge amount of money, Fredrick exclaims with shame on the show.
Thanks to the fact that your mother enters as the guarantor of a so-called backup loan, many small and expensive loans can be paid off.
Some lenders also agree to reduce the debt or freeze the interest rate for the couple to pay each month.
From less than 41,000 a month, the economy collapses, if they manage to follow their new budget without deviations.
Ida still seems hopeful some time after the show was taped.
– We will do it. Although it will take us a few years to get rid of debt, we do not intend to borrow money to get married, but to save for it, he says in “Lyxfällan”.
Hedberg: terrifying
Host Magnus Hedberg, who has had ongoing contact with the pair, tells Expressen that they seem to be doing well.
– Just to be able to pay the bills and walk. It’s great to see.
At the same time, Hedberg worries how many young people get into trouble due to financial frivolity.
– You want to indulge yourself now and pay later, of course the individual has a great responsibility, but without the credit companies we would not have seen this debt.
So many young people sought debt relief.
