It’s been just over a week since the site noticed the case Loopsider, and a clip of the brutal beating of music producer Michel Zecler, 41, was released.

– Without those photos, I would be in prison now, he says.

On Friday, four suspected police officers were arrested and charges have now been filed for, among other things, police violence and battery.

Prosecutor Rémy Heitz believes that the attack has a racist motive. Michel Zecler has said he was called a “dirty nigger” during the attack.

The incident must have started when he was searched for not wearing a mouth guard, and after the police must have smelled cannabis. Later, Michel Zecler is said to have been severely beaten with a baton, and by several plainclothes police officers kicked and punched him in the face.

Protests against controversial police law

At the same time, there is a debate in France about a new security law planned to restrict the right to publish photographs of police officers on duty. There have been large protests in Paris against the law this weekend, with more than 100,000 protesters taking to the streets, according to France 24.

The incident has aroused revulsion in France. Footballer Kylian Mbappé, among other things, has shown his support for Zecler, and President Macron calls the incident “shameful”.

– That law must stop. If the government doesn’t fix this problem, it will lose all authority, says actor Mathieu Kassovitz, known for the HBO hit “False Identity.”
