The handball league is on again, and for Mikael Franzén’s Alingsås it could have started much better.
Seven players – Daniel Blomgren, William Andersson Moberg, Alexander Wedin, Gustav Skagerling, Joshua Mesias Wästerlund, Andreas Lang, and Samuel Lindberg – felt bad this week and were then tested for covid-19.
– It is common sense that we do the same as everyone else. If you have signs of this, it is obvious that we should try to keep the spread of infection low, and then we should assess our players if they are sick and have the symptoms. We must take our responsibility. We can’t stop testing our players because we think we’ll get away. We don’t want to spread the infection, says Alingsås coach Mikael Franzén.
Four players trapped in quarantine
The answer? They must arrive long before the return.
– We got a reply to two (Lang and Lindberg) – and then a reply just before we left. The answers were negative, so that was fine. We did not have time to get more answers and then it is the Infection Control Law that applies. There is no more, and we do not have cases of covid either. If there are sick people, they don’t usually play with us either. It doesn’t get any stranger than that, says Mikael Franzén.
And even though Alingsås were able to play the debut without leading players up front, it was in regular defense that they broke down.
– Yes, the defense does not exist today. We played well forwards, but backwards we should be much, much, much better, says Mikael Franzén, disappointed.
In the end, it worked out. 31-20 for Skövde: a defeat with eleven balls.
-I don’t know if I experienced it during my time at the club, says Franzén.
The sick Alingsås players are on the road to recovery and are waiting for a negative corona test to start training again.
