Operation Save Christmas is already underway in at least four countries: Norway, France, Germany and England.

Government after government closes communities to open at Christmas.

– If we act now, there is a greater chance that we can have a normal Christmas party with the family later, Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg said last Monday.

Norway was the first to close the partnership again, after the spread of the infection accelerated again. From October 29 to early December, for example, only five people can meet privately, in addition to household members, and in indoor events only 20 can participate, according to TT.

The next day, October 30, France closed again and is not expected to reopen until December 1. With stricter measures, almost 40,000 people infected by corona daily will be reduced to 5,000 infected per day. President Emmanuel Macron justified the decision:

– We will see if we can hope to celebrate the important Christmas as a family. If we have better control of the situation in two weeks, we can assess the situation and hopefully open some stores again, in the important period before the Christmas holidays, he said according to Radio France International.

As of November 2, today it is Germany’s turn to suppress the activities of the population for a month, in order to suppress the corona infection.

“We must act now,” Chancellor Angela Merkel told Reuters on Tuesday when she announced the closure last Tuesday, which means that a maximum of ten people from two households can meet at the same time and that restaurants, theaters, gyms and bathrooms will be closed.

Before the shutdown, a draft of the new rules was circulating in the German press, where Merkel staff noted that infection had increased in almost all regions of Germany, and that it was important to act immediately to try to avoid severe restrictions during Christmas holidays.

Last Sunday, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the second lockdown in England. It is valid for four weeks from Thursday, November 5. Among other things, pubs, restaurants, gyms and shops that do not sell vital products will be closed. However, schools and universities can remain open, which was not the case this spring.

Boris Johnson justified the closure by saying that Christmas must be saved:

“Christmas will be very different this year, maybe even very different, but I really hope and believe that by introducing these strict restrictions we can allow families across the country to come together,” he told the BBC.
