Papa Bouba Diop is a Senegalese football legend.
At the 2002 World Cup, he scored Senegal’s first World Cup goal when he scored the only goal of the match in a landslide victory against France. He was also part of the team that beat Sweden in the round of 16.
In total, the midfielder played 63 international appearances for Senegal and 11 goals.
At the club level, he became primarily a name in England, where he represented Portsmouth and Fulham, where he received the nickname “Wardrobe”.
“We are devastated”
Pope Bouba Diop died on Sunday after a long illness, write several British media.
Now he is in mourning for the world of football.
“Our thoughts go out to their loved ones” writes his old club RC Lens in Twitter.
“We are devastated to learn that Papa Bouba Diop died at the age of 42. Rest in Peace, ‘Wardrobe'”, writes Fulham.
