The alarm calls were desperate. The first was called at 10:08 on Thursday morning.
“We need all the police in the world, there is panic here.”
“We need medical and police attention.”
“We have a guy who put a cane here.”
Anton Lundin Pettersson, 21, armed himself with a sword and entered Kronan’s school in Trollhättan.
Three people, a teacher, a student aide and a student, never returned home.
It was October 22, 2015 and what police press spokesman Thomas Fuxborg quickly described as “one of the worst events in the history of Sweden”.
The students thought it was a joke
Anton Lundin Pettersson was shot and killed by police, who arrived at the scene after his violent attack lasted seven minutes. The attack had been planned, among other things, by mapping the school.
The motive for the attack on the school was racist and the act is classified as a hate crime.
As Anton Lundin Pettersson walked inside the school, the students who were not attacked took pictures with him when they thought he was a Halloween prank.
A girl who took a photo that later spread around the world tells P4 Väst:
– We saw blood on his sword and we thought it was a Halloween joke. We didn’t understand anything, he tells P4.
Left one last message
When the photo is taken, the assailant has already stabbed two people.
– We took the photo and then a teacher came out and then (the teacher) followed her, says the student to P4 Väst.
A teacher became Anton Lundin Pettersson’s third and final victim, he was stabbed after confronting the perpetrator.
Before leaving home, he had written one last message to a friend in Holland.
“You are amazing. I will miss you so much, although I know I could have been more active, but you know me, I hate myself. If there is a life after this, I hope to see you there! I hope those damn cops take aim correctly, from I really don’t want to survive the riot. But anyway. I love you. // Anton “
