Five questions after photos of North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Un

On April 11, North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Un appeared in the photo. Then there was silence.

For three weeks he was completely out of the public context, and soon questions arose about what was happening to the dictator.

A week ago, the South Korean news site Daily NK, run by North Korean defectors, reported that the absence was due to the dictator having undergone heart surgery from which he was recovering. Sources said complications arose that worsened Kim’s condition.

Theories flowed freely: that the dictator was in a coma, that he was isolated to avoid coronary infection, or that he had died.

It appeared in the fertilizer factory.

But then it suddenly appeared in North Korean state media on Friday. The images that were later released were said to have come from the inauguration of an artificial fertilizer factory that took place on Friday. A smiling Kim Jong-Un cut the red ribbon outside the factory.

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, writes about the return of the dictator:

“At least I’m glad he’s back, and I’m fine!”

But question marks have become even more important, especially since North Korea is known for manipulating images and spreading misleading propaganda. Bloomberg has compiled five considerations:

1. Kim Jong-Un looks prosperous in the photos, far from being as included as one does after a serious illness. Kim also doesn’t appear to have lost weight at 130 pounds, which was expected, analysts say.

2. Next to Kim is his sister, Kim Yo Jung. The sister is basically the only family member who is close to Kim, and has often been mentioned as her possible successor. He recently regained his position as a substitute member of the Politburo, the party’s highest decision-making body. The sister standing next to the dictator is a common control in North Korean propaganda to strengthen the dictator’s position and show family ties.

3. One of the employees in the photos wears a mouth guard, which points in the direction that it is the coronoron who kept the dictator away due to an outbreak in the country.

4. Bloomberg analysts have also commented that a golf cart is included in the background. One was also on hand after the dictator had been absent for a long time in 2014 and it was rumored that he was being manipulated against gout. However, he has used it on other occasions when he has been on visits that require long walks.

5. A representative holds the images on a white stick that analysts say appears to be a stick that should be on hand if the dictator needs it. Later, however, it was used as a pointer during a presentation.
