Five cases in Beijing cause emergency

It was on the trail of infection after the first two cases that the five new ones were discovered and now the area’s nearly 800,000 residents will be crowned, says local infection control manager Pang Xinghuo. Two towns will be completely isolated.

The first two infected are a 31-year-old woman who works in a grocery store and a 29-year-old woman at an American technology company.

In another part of Beijing, an asymptomatic carrier, an airline employee who had just arrived from South Korea, was also discovered on Friday. On Thursday, a hotel employee in the government district was found to be carrying coronavirus, and all restaurant and frozen food staff across the district with 1.5 million residents began to be tested.

The previous week, two cases had been found in Beijing, which had otherwise been free of COVID-19 for several months, according to official sources. Now the municipal leadership is asking all cinemas, libraries, museums and entertainment venues to reduce the audience to 75 percent of capacity. During trains and flights, disinfection and temperature measurement should be carried out and the population is urged to be more alert and do everything possible to prevent the infection from spreading. One looks with some fear for the New Year celebrations on February 12.
