“V-day” is here. The first British were vaccinated against covid-19. The first out was Margaret Keenan, 90, in Coventry, central England.
British BBC footage shows the 90-year-old man wearing a mouth guard and blue Christmas T-shirt with the first syringe vaccine, accompanied by applause and camera flashes.
Hari Shukla, 87, and his wife Ranjan in Newcastle will also receive the vaccination syringe on Tuesday morning. In three weeks, it’s time for the next dose.
“I feel like it is my duty to do this, to do what I can to help,” he told the BBC.

Margaret Keenan, 90, was the first patient in the UK to be vaccinated against COVID-19 on Tuesday morning by nurse May Parsons in the city of Coventry.
The British are the first in the world to receive the vaccine from Pfizer and Biontech on a large scale outside of clinical trials, after being the first country to approve the vaccine last week. It is the largest vaccination campaign in the history of the country, and in first place are people over 80 years of age and those who are dedicated to the health and care of the elderly. The hope is to vaccinate about 800,000 Britons in the first round of vaccinations.
Health Minister Matt Hancock says Tuesday’s start of vaccination means there is “light at the end of the tunnel.”
“We will see today, Day V, as a crucial moment in our fight against this terrible disease,” he told the BBC.
Since the country’s first confirmed crash in January, more than 60,000 Britons have died with confirmed COVID-19.
