Shortly after 5 p.m. on Thursday, the rescue service received an alarm about a fire in a three-story house in Stenkullen in the municipality of Lerum.
– We have a confirmed fire in the basement. We have ventilated two staircases, said Bosse Florell, alarm and control operator at the rescue service in Greater Gothenburg, at 5.30 pm.
The rescue service was at the scene with a total of seven units. In the afternoon, smoke divers were allowed to enter the basement of the three-story building.
Police and an ambulance were also alerted to the scene.
Suspicion of arson
Police suspect that the fire started and have therefore launched an investigation into the attempted arson.
– It is classified as attempted arson, but we have no suspects or detainees, says Göran Carlbom, police spokesman in the West region.
According to the police, no person should have been injured in connection with the fire.
Just before eight o’clock on Christmas Eve, the rescue service had put out the fire and left the scene.
Currently the basement is completely cordoned off.
