Ten units of the rescue service tried to extinguish the fire that broke out for unclear reasons in an apartment of a six-story building in Väsbyskogen, north of Stockholm.

– The fire is fully developed. We have deployed smoke divers and are currently making sure the fire does not spread further into the house, Tony Frank, commanding officer of the Greater Stockholm Fire Brigade, told Aftonbladet earlier in the day.

50 people evacuated

Several stairways are filled with smoke and about 50 people have been evacuated. At 1440 hours, the rescue service announces that the fire has been extinguished, but that they will be left with “enough units” for a while longer.

– We will stay one more hour and secure everything. We search all stairs and help with evacuation and evacuation, so that those who have been evacuated from the adjacent stairs can return to their apartments, says Ola Russander of the Greater Stockholm fire service.

Investigate arson

The rescue service managed to prevent the fire from spreading beyond the apartment, which is considered to be completely destroyed.

At present, there is no information that anyone was injured during the incident.

It is not yet clear what caused the fire. Police are on the scene and awaiting work from the rescue service before they can further investigate the incident, which is classified as arson.
