The Swedish ladies secured victory at Finnkampen even before the final branches were decided on Sunday, among other things after Angelica Bengtsson and Khaddi Sagnia took home the pole vault and the long jump.
On the men’s side, it was much smoother. Finland led by one point before the last leg, which was 800 meters.
Sweden had a strong team on paper, with Andreas Kramer as the big favorite. But the Swedish team unexpectedly opened slowly and invited the Finns to the race.
Sweden won after emotions in the 800 meters
But Sweden managed to resolve the situation in the best way. Andreas Kramer won the race ahead of his compatriot Felix Francois, which was enough to take home the men’s victory at Finnkampen by a margin of five points.
– I got really nervous at the end in the last corner, said SVT expert Kajsa Bergqvist.
– It was very even, I understood. We didn’t really know what it was saying, we had been inside and loaded into a room. But we established the tactics to earn as many points as possible regardless, said Andreas Kramer at SVT.
The triumph of the 800 meters meant a Swedish double in total at Finnkampen.
Men won 206-201 and women 221-186.
