Susanna Paavilainen, who is the project’s operations manager, says the positive test was found Thursday. In all, the dogs completed 83 tests on Wednesday and 71 tests on Thursday. Previously, similar experiments had only been conducted in a laboratory setting.

According to the researchers behind the experiment, the results in a laboratory setting have been very reliable. Dogs have also been able to smell covid-19 in tests of asymptomatic people. How do you act if the traveler’s test is positive?
– The traveler is then directed directly to the hospital care unit. Everyone who is tested is also encouraged to take a pcr test. Dogs are so sensitive that they can be travelers who can only get sick in four or five days.
According to Paavilainen, the dogs have acted as expected.
– It has gone well so far, but surely you notice that they get more tired. It takes a while for them to get used to the new environment.
