On Easter Day, the regional council Carl-Johan Sonesson (M) published statistics on the distribution of the number of infected crowns in the different municipalities of Skåne. The figures show that a clear majority of confirmed cases are found in the largest cities.

The publication of the statistics comes after a long power struggle in which the Staffanstorp Municipality, governed by the regional council of Carl-Johan Sonesson’s brother, Christian Sonesson (M), brought the Skåne Region to court for get the figures. Staffanstorp Municipality sued the region in district court on March 6

The statistics were released by Carl-Johan Sonesson on Sunday afternoon as a public post on his private Facebook page and were therefore not communicated through the official Skåne Region channels.

“Many people have asked for figures at the municipal level. Skåne Region has chosen, in the interests of privacy protection, not to initially issue this type of specification. At the beginning, we had very few cases registered and some of them were in small towns and the risk had been obvious that it was possible to calculate exactly who was infected. Some municipalities still have very few cases registered, but we still choose to disclose the information … “Carl-Johan Sonesson writes in his Facebook post, among other things.

The now published Statistics provide a snapshot of the number of people infected as of April 10, that is, Good Friday. According to statistics previously released by the Skåne Region, a total of 430 people in the county were infected on Friday.

Figures on distribution at the municipal level show that a clear majority of cases in Skåne are in the four largest cities in the county. There are 141 cases in Malmö, 72 in Helsingborg, 52 in Lund and 38 cases in Kristianstad that were recorded on Good Friday. This gives 137 cases in the other Skåne municipalities. Statistics only show exact figures for those municipalities that have 10 reported cases or more. Others will be reported as “<10", which means that the municipality in question has less than ten cases.

The Skåne region has published daily updates on the total number of cases and covid-19 deaths in the county since the start of the crown eruption. Only minor changes have occurred between Good Friday and Easter Day. 436 people have been found infected in Skåne and 22 people have died.

– From now on, the figures on the number of cases in the municipalities will be published continuously. Of course, they will be part of the daily statistics, says regional director Alf Jönsson.

Isn’t it strange that the regional council decides to publish these figures on a Sunday through Facebook instead of Region Skåne publishing them through its public channels?

– The working committee of the Regional Board has requested this information. I inform them every day and now they asked me for this information, says Alf Jönsson.

Carl-Johan Sonesson writes in his Facebook post that the region is now “avoiding court costs” as a result of his post. Alf Jönsson says he has no idea where in the legal process the Staffanstorp municipality’s lawsuit against the Skåne region was.

– I haven’t discussed anything with Staffanstorp. I work for the work committee. There is nothing strange in that.

The published He himself comments on the statistics as follows:

– So far we have been fortunate in Skåne with relatively few cases, but this is a development that can be rapidly accelerated. It is about having good cooperation with municipalities and older residents and home service. This is where we put our gun.

HD and Sydsvenskan searched Carl-Johan Sonesson and Christian Sonesson for comment Sunday night.

Christian Sonesson has also chosen to share the figures on Facebook where he writes:

“My annoyance and ours the judgment of the District Court since March 6 has probably contributed to the Skåne Region now releasing municipal figures on people infected with covid-19. “
