Thursday’s decision is the first of its kind made by the Swedish Public Health Agency. The previous stoppages of visits issued by the municipalities themselves have lacked legal support, for example Stockholm city decision overturned by court.
Half of the county’s municipalities are affected
The Stockholm County municipalities that are on the list are Botkyrka, Danderyd, Ekerö, Järfälla, Salem, Sollentuna, Solna, Stockholm, Södertälje, Täby, Upplands Väsby, Vallentuna, Österåker.
– But we still see this as a last resort when everything else has been tried to prevent the spread of the infection, state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell said at the Swedish Public Health Agency press conference on Thursday.
The municipalities on the list have thus demonstrated to the FHM that they have taken the necessary measures to prevent the spread of the virus, but it has not been enough.
“It’s good that we now have a solution”
The decision applies from December 3 to 12. but exceptions can be made.
– It is good that we now have a solution that is legally sustainable and also applies to private housing. Given the social consequences and the great invasion in people’s lives, stopping the visit means that it is welcome that the ban also includes exceptions to break a separation between spouses or if there are other special circumstances, says the councilor for the third age of the Stockholm City, Erik Slottner (KD).
